At FFHC, we agree with the American Academy of Family Physicians that everyone should have a personal medical home, where all individuals can receive acute, chronic and preventive health care services -- regardless of age, sex, socioeconomic status, race or sexual orientation.

At the center of a medical home is a personal relationship between patient and provider, the key to continuous and comprehensive health care.

Through an on-going relationship with a family physician in their medical home, patients can be assured of care that is not only accessible but also accountable, comprehensive, integrated, patient-centered, safe, scientifically valid, and satisfying to both patients and their physicians.

A patient-centered medical home is oriented to the whole person.

A patient-centered medical home either provides directly for the full breadth of its patients’ health care needs, or it takes responsibility for helping to manage their care with other qualified professionals.

The family physician’s care is both personal and comprehensive, and not limited
by age, sex, organ system or type of problem, be it biological, behavioral or social.

Care begins at birth, and continues through all stages of life, including end-of-life care.

At FFHC, patients are encouraged to participate actively in all aspects of their care and medical decision-making. They are supported in a compassionate and robust partnership with their providers, and should feel free to give us feedback to ensure that their needs and expectations are being met.

Please allow me to introduce myself. I’m Dr. Jeff Benson, currently the sole clinical provider at FFHC. I opened the office in June of 2007 here on South Freeport Road and am greatly enjoying the pleasures of working and living in such a beautiful area. I’m also greatly enjoying the challenges and the rewards of community private practice. Prior to starting up FFHC, I’d worked at Bowdoin College for 7 years as College Physician and Director of Health Services. Before that, I’d been a member of a hospital-owned, multi-physician family practice in Gardiner.

I have been fortunate to live, study and work in some interesting places over the years. I grew up in Montreal and did my undergraduate studies in Sociology at Harvard. After college, I went to China and studied Chinese language and history. After some travels in Southeast Asia, I went to Berkeley, to study Chinese History. As it turned out, I didn’t much like the life of a graduate student, so left school, and worked for a few years in construction. I also volunteered in the Oakland County Hospital E. R., and was very moved by what I saw. I began pre-med studies, and eventually headed back to Harvard for my M.D.

My residency training was in Family and Social Medicine at Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx, and I’ve kept up my Board Certification in Family Practice ever since. After residency, I worked in Central and South America on a variety of primary care and public health projects. Later, I worked for a few years in rural Texas. When I went to Johns Hopkins for a Master’s in Public Health degree, I was fortunate enough to find great training and true love. I got married, and worked in East Baltimore inner city clinics. We decided to move to New Mexico, where I joined the Medical School faculty and started a clinical and public health teaching program out on the Navajo Reservation. After our first daughter was born, though, we realized we needed to live nearer to families in Maine and in Canada, and so here we are – now our own family of four—happily settled in Freeport.

Hello.  I'm Lori Chadbourne and I joined Freeport Family Health Care in October of 2007. Prior to that, I worked as the Administrative Coordinator at the Coe Health Center at Bowdoin College along with Dr. Benson.  Before Bowdoin, I also worked with Dr. Benson in a large, hospital based family practice in Gardiner, ME. I guess when you find a team that works, you stick with it!

A native of Maine, I grew up in the Augusta area. I worked in a residency program where I got my first glimpse of what nurse practitioners and physician assistants did, and I decided I wanted to pursue the profession. I graduated from the Physician Assistant Program of the Pennsylvania State University at the Hershey Medical Center in 1982 and came back to Maine, deciding to pursue a less traditional role as a PA and became a pharmaceutical sales representative for central and western Maine. Ten years on the road and many many miles later, I decided that with a husband and a 7 year old daughter, life on the road was history. Although formally trained as a physician assistant, I’ve worked in various health care positions over the years. Pharmacy technician, medical assistant, office manager were all occupations that I truly enjoyed because of the different types of interactions I had with people while staying in the medical field. When I’m not in the office, I’m usually taking pictures or watching birds—lots of times taking pictures of birds!

So what do I do at Freeport Family Health Care? A little of everything! My official title is “Office Manager”, which is what I do, manage the office. For now, it’s just myself and Dr. Benson in the practice, but as the practice grows, you will most likely see other professionals joining the team.

Welcome to Freeport Family Health Care!
